This weekend, in preparation for Thanksgiving, DH and I decided to do a test-run of a cheesecake recipe.

Prismatic Light and Bread Pudding

On Saturday after the game, DH and I wandered around for a bit before going out to dinner at Tarbell’s in Phoenix, a local restaurant that makes the best bread pudding I have ever tasted. It looks like ordinary bread pudding in a sweet sauce, but the taste is indescribable. I’m fairly certain the heavens opened up for a moment and angels sang; there were flavors present that I did not expect, but most heartily welcomed. It was the kind of food that almost made me understand why some people prefer eating to any other activity. Just thinking about it practically sends me into a swoon. It was so good, in fact, that for you foodies out there I’m giving you a link to the recipe. The secret ingredient may have been the whiskey, since all of the other ingredients are what you’d expect from bread pudding, but whatever it was, it worked. Wow.
The restaurant itself was lovely, too – they managed a great balance between being light enough to read the menus and see the plates, and dark enough to feel cosy, a very rare achievement in my experience. The evening light shone through the windows and made everything glow in soft golden hues. Unfortunately, I left my camera in the car, thinking it would be too dark and frankly rude to bring it in. Next time, though, I’m doing it anyway.
