Hummingbird’s home base
eatery a testing ground
for wasp’s no-fly zone
-o.o-
This was an interesting little drama. The wasp took up residence, and the hummers would approach very tentatively, just taking a few sips and flying away if the wasp so much as twitched. If I approached, it would fly away but the hummers didn’t mind. After a couple of days, it actually started chasing them off the feeder, so I decided it was time to take decisive action with a rolled-up magazine. Now it’s strictly for the birds again.

Two Birds in the Tree
Posted by julie on October 3, 2007
My little humming friend has returned, apparently with company. They must really like the tree; I still don’t have a new bird feeder, so there’s nothing for them to eat close by. They’re fairly bold. When I let the dogs out, they usually don’t fly off right away, probably because their camouflage works so well.
