A Work in Progress

“Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.” – An old Irish proverb (I think!)

Finished??

Posted by julie on December 18, 2006

Okay, I think it’s just about done (woohoo!). The colors here are fairly close to accurate, at least given the current lighting in my kitchen. I may continue to correct small details through the evening, but unless there is a glaring problem that needs attention (which is always possible – it’s amazing what the brain won’t notice when you’ve been “seeing” something for a while), this is pretty much what the final image looks like.

Starting the Final Stretch

Posted by julie on December 15, 2006

December 15th progress

Okay, we’re in the final stretch. Because I chose the deadline of December 25th, I’m really going to work at having the painting completed by Monday at the latest, and plan to ship it on Wednesday or Thursday. It won’t be completely dry yet, but I won’t ship it if I’m not confident that it won’t be smeared. This weekend, I plan to work on polishing up Bishop and the fireplace tomorrow (adding more contrast, correcting colors, etc.), and going back into the middle-right section (adding more detail) on Sunday. Monday I’ll add final touches. If Christine approves, it’ll be finished. Woohoo! I’d like to note that the colors in the photos have not been completely accurate – this one seems more red than the real thing, for instance. Interestingly, however, looking at the picture actually makes it easier in some ways to see which areas need work; things pop out in the photo that go unnoticed in reality.

December Progress

This is an update for work I’ve done over the past week. I’ve been getting ready for my Dad to come and visit, so haven’t had much time for posting (but the painting is going well ;-) .

Bishop, November 30

Today I worked on the fireplace, but not the fire yet. Hopefully by tomorrow it will be dry enough to go back in with lighter colors and really make the flames pop out, as well as the ash on the log in the foreground.

Bishop Work

Today I worked on adding some layers to Bishop. There’s still a long way to go, but I think he’s coming along nicely.

First Week’s Work

This is the first couple of stages of the underpainting. Christine, if any aspects of the object placement are a concern, now is the time to mention it – everything is fixable at this point. You can either leave a comment, or e-mail me directly. Don’t worry about colors yet – they will all change. I hope this is reassuring, hehe.
