Hapless ground dweller

bumbled to my living room

instant photo opp

Apparently, this poor critter was a digger bee (so now I can add “big gray bumble bee” to the list of things that people come here for). He somehow wound up on my living room floor, there to be trodden upon by oblivious pooches. So of course, there are Eyeclops photos to follow. I never knew there were so many types of solitary bees. They seem to like my neighborhood.

Ehh, publicity-hounds! Not your pooches, the bees! They just wanna be in pictures! They are just using you for the photo-op!

Eyeclops close-ups of squished bees? Bring it on!

Fortunately, it wasn’t actually squished (I don’t think I could have brought myself to examine the goo too closely). It looked whole, but obviously something inside was broken, poor thing.

Fuzzy legs — obviously French — no wait, the worker bees are all males, right?

  4. julie says:

Actually, I think in hive insects the workers are generally sterile females. This is a different kind of bee, though, so I don’t know if it’s male or female.

  5. julie says:

But yeah, if female, totally French πŸ™‚
