A Little Piece of My Heart

Walt’s photo today reminded me of the lake where I grew up. Through the magic of Google and Flickr, now you can see it, too. I spent many an hour roaming those paths, and rowing underneath that bridge. The general neighborhood has seen a lot of development, but the park, at least, remains exactly as I remember it.

Is it any wonder that I loved that place?

More, in varying seasons.

Yep, we’ve got all those critters around here, as well — especially the big brown slugs, which are far more destructive than banana slugs; they are about the only thing that will do serious damage to a kohlrabi!

What a treat to see something you loved from your childhood that has not changed!

Worst thing about those slugs: stepping on them barefoot in the dark. *shudder*

Oh man! Does this take me back or what!

To think we had the gift of growing up in dappled sunlight, running along paths beaten down shiny hard by our feet.

No stairs for us though… We scrabbled up and down the banks long before climbing walls, and rode through the woods

on our big balooned tire’d bikes. We didn’t call it mountain biking on our one speed heavy steeds…We called it FUN!
