Friday Portrait, Feb. 5

Today’s sitter was Elizabeth Marie, who was quite a challenge as she was actively crocheting. Walking around during one of the breaks, she realized between the red hat and red dress, “I look like a Communist!”

I did several sketches today, but they’re all a little rough. It’s good practice to work with a more active sitter, though.

The hand work was especially challenging, as they were constantly in motion and there was a lot of background texture to distract from the details.

Gah! Thanks to Family Guy, that blends in my brain with the heinous bird.

    Well don’t you know,

    Good work, though.

The worst earworm I ever had was “Bennie and the Jets”: “She’s got electric boots, a mohair suit, Oh, I read it in a magazine.”

I was actually an Elton John fan in the “Honky Chateau” days and made the mistake of buying the Yellowbrick Road album which was just full of stuff like that.
