A New Work, in Progress

My brother and his wife love to travel. Around Thanksgiving, they were fortunate enough to be able to tour Europe and see some beautiful things, even though much of Europe was actually closed and/ or closing while they were there. Anyway, at one point they made a stop in Strasbourg, and took some gorgeous photos. He has asked me to make a painting for him, which I’m doing digitally because reasons. All of this to give a bit of back story and share my progress so far. The final version is going to be a file big enough for him to have printed on at least a 3′ x 2′ canvas, but he should be able to go bigger if he wants.

That out of the way, this is what I have so far:

Original photo:

For the view, I’ll be substituting another reference photo without the wires.

Foreground (if all you see is white, keep scrolling):

The background is the other reference photo here. The foreground was relatively easy…

Starting the drawing for the background (again, if you only see white, keep scrolling. That’s just how much canvas I still have to fill!):

Yes, I have a loooong way to go. Really glad I’m not painting this one by hand! Most of what I’ve done so far won’t be in the final image, but it’s worthwhile in its own right.

Anyway, I’m enjoying this project, and thought my handful of readers might as well.

Merry Christmas, and a happy and hopeful New Year!
